“Modi banned triple talaq, but won’t vote for him”: Muslim women
Video of Muslim women from West Bengal saying they will not vote for PM Narendra Modi despite banning triple talaq has gone viral. The reform, introduced via the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, was seen as a measure to prevent Muslim men from divorcing their wives arbitrarily.
Many women said the law offered dignity and protection to those who once lived with the fear of sudden divorce.
However, despite acknowledging the benefits of the law, the women made it clear that it does not influence their voting decisions. Several specifically stated that they would not vote for Modi or the BJP.
