PM Modi becomes India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 10, 2026, became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in continuous office, completing 4,399 consecutive days as the country’s head of government. With this milestone, he surpassed the record of 4,398 days previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014, and has since led the country through three consecutive electoral victories in 2014, 2019, and 2024. The achievement marks a significant moment in India’s democratic journey and reflects the longevity of his leadership at the national level.
The NDA government, under Modi’s leadership, has now completed 12 years in power. Political leaders, supporters, and well-wishers from India and abroad congratulated the Prime Minister on the landmark occasion, acknowledging his enduring influence on the country’s political landscape.
During his tenure, Modi has overseen major initiatives across governance, the economy, infrastructure, and foreign policy, while the BJP has significantly expanded its presence across India. The milestone further cements his place in Indian political history as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India.
