Himanta Clarifies Daimary Remarks On ULFA Group

Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary sparked a massive political controversy recently. He praised the United Liberation Front of Assam during a public event. Opposition leaders severely criticized his remarks regarding the banned insurgent outfit.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stepped forward to explain the controversial stance. Sarma defended his cabinet colleague during an interaction with reporters. He stated that Daimary specifically meant the pro-talks faction led by Anup Chetia.
The Chief Minister noted that this particular faction signed a formal peace agreement. Consequently, that group no longer holds a banned status under the law. Sarma emphasized that Daimary never supported Paresh Baruah’s hardline faction.
Opposition politicians rejected the explanation and demanded strict official accountability. They questioned why a senior minister praised an organization with a violent historical background. Political tensions continue to rise across the state following the incident.
