200 kg of fake tomato ketchup seized in Hapur, UP

Food safety authorities in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh have uncovered an illegal operation producing fake tomato ketchup and seized nearly 200 kilograms of the adulterated product.
Investigators found that the manufacturers were using a bright red mixture prepared with acid and other harmful substances instead of real tomatoes. The product was reportedly being readied for bottling and sale in local markets as genuine ketchup, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Preliminary findings indicate the operation was driven by cost-cutting, with producers replacing natural ingredients with cheap chemical alternatives. Acting on a tip-off, food safety officials raided the facility and confiscated the entire stock.
Authorities have warned that consuming such adulterated products can be dangerous. Samples have been sent to a laboratory for detailed analysis to determine their exact composition.
Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant while purchasing food items, carefully check labels, and rely only on trusted brands. They also assured that stricter monitoring and further action will be taken to curb the spread of unsafe food practices in the region.
