GHMC raid exposes rotten meat, unhygienic conditions

A food safety raid in Balapur has uncovered serious hygiene violations at a meat processing unit, raising concerns about public health and food safety standards.
Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation conducted an inspection at Salami Industries, where they reportedly seized large quantities of rotten meat, along with goat heads and accumulated waste. The discovery points to deeply unhygienic storage and handling practices at the facility.
According to authorities, the seized items were being stored in conditions unfit for consumption, posing potential health risks if distributed in local markets. The unit is linked to owner Mohammed Abdul Gaffar Khan and further investigation is underway to determine the scale of operations and possible violations of food safety regulations.
Officials have indicated that such practices not only violate established hygiene norms but also endanger consumers who may unknowingly purchase contaminated products. Samples from the seized stock are expected to be examined to assess the extent of spoilage and any harmful substances present.
The incident has renewed focus on the need for stricter monitoring of food production and storage facilities, especially those dealing with perishable items like meat. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
