“I apologise to my Hindu brothers”: JUP Chief Humayn Kabir

Humayun Kabir, Chairman of the JUP Party and a former TMC MLA, issued a public apology during a rally in West Bengal for his 2024 remarks that had drawn strong public reaction.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “I regret what I said. I apologise to my Hindu brothers with folded hands,” in an effort to clarify his position and ease tensions. The apology comes months after his earlier statement at a political meeting drew criticism.
In his earlier remarks at a TMC meeting, Kabir had reportedly threatened a section of the population, stating that the 30% Hindu population would be “thrown into the river,” which led to calls for accountability from various quarters.
His latest statement is being seen as an attempt to rebuild trust and calm public sentiment amid ongoing political developments in the state. The development has also renewed discussion around political rhetoric and responsibility, with many highlighting the need for greater restraint and sensitivity in public discourse in a diverse country like India.
