Delhi govt issues strict guidelines ahead of Bakrid

Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), the Delhi Government has issued strict guidelines banning the sacrifice of cows, calves, camels, and other prohibited animals in the national capital. Authorities warned that anyone found violating the rules would face legal action. The advisory was issued by the Development Department under the supervision of Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, directing officials to crack down on illegal transportation of animals, unauthorised slaughter, and acts of animal cruelty. The government has also prohibited animal sacrifice in public places such as roads, streets, lanes, and open spaces. Sacrifices will only be permitted at authorised and designated locations. Officials have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of animal protection laws and maintain law and order during the festival period. In addition, residents have been warned against dumping animal waste or allowing blood and remains to flow into drains, sewers, or public areas. Authorities said improper disposal could create sanitation and environmental hazards and may attract penalties. Citizens have also been urged to report any violations to the police or the Development Department. The measures come ahead of Bakrid celebrations later this month, as Delhi Police and civic agencies intensify monitoring in sensitive areas across the city to prevent any untoward incidents.

Ambedkarite recites Bhim chalisa in Hanuman chalisa style

The “Bhim Chalisa,” a devotional-style composition dedicated to B. R. Ambedkar and modeled after the Hanuman Chalisa, has sparked widespread debate on social media. The rendition has gone viral online, drawing strong reactions from both critics and supporters. Critics argue that adapting the style of the Hanuman Chalisa to praise Ambedkar is inappropriate and disrespectful to Hindu religious traditions. Many users online described the act as provocative, claiming it hurts Hindu sentiments and unnecessarily mixes politics with sacred devotional culture. Supporters, however, view the “Bhim Chalisa” as a form of Ambedkarite cultural expression and social assertion. They point out that Dalit and Ambedkarite movements have long used music, poetry, and devotional-style performances to spread messages of equality and social reform. For them, the composition is a tribute to Ambedkar’s contributions to India and his efforts to uplift marginalized communities. The controversy reflects the broader tensions in India surrounding identity, religion, and cultural expression in the digital age. As the video continues to circulate online, the debate remains deeply divided, with some seeing it as a legitimate expression of admiration for Ambedkar, while others consider it disrespectful to Hindu religious traditions.

India & Cyprus sign key MoUs

India and Cyprus on Friday signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism, diplomatic training, search-and-rescue operations, defence, innovation, and strategic affairs. The agreements are expected to deepen ties between the two countries and expand collaboration across several key sectors. The MoUs were exchanged during a formal ceremony following bilateral talks between Narendra Modi and Nikos Christodoulides. The move is being seen as an important step toward building a stronger and more comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Cyprus. One of the major agreements focuses on counter-terrorism cooperation, including the creation of a Joint Working Group to enhance coordination and information sharing. Both countries also agreed to cooperate in diplomatic training programmes and strengthen coordination in search-and-rescue operations. Prime Minister Modi said the India-Cyprus relationship is evolving from simple cooperation to “co-creation,” highlighting opportunities for closer collaboration in maritime security, cybersecurity, defence exchanges, and regional connectivity projects. He also referred to the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor as a major initiative for future economic and strategic integration. President Christodoulides described the partnership as strategically important and globally relevant. He stressed the need for stronger cooperation in security, defence, technology, education, and economic development. He also reiterated Cyprus’ support for closer engagement between India and the European Union on major international and security-related issues. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism in all forms. India and Cyprus called for stronger international cooperation to curb terror financing, eliminate safe havens for terrorists, and prevent cross-border terrorism. The two sides also agreed to enhance coordination in emergency response, maritime safety, and search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific regions. The latest agreements build on the growing partnership between India and Cyprus in recent years, particularly in defence cooperation, cybersecurity, maritime engagement, diplomatic exchanges, and strategic dialogue.

London Sikh restaurant shuts over ‘Proudly we don’t sell halal’ sign

After 16 years in business, Rangrez, a Sikh-owned Indian restaurant in Hammersmith, London, has permanently shut down amid controversy surrounding its “Proudly we don’t sell halal” stance. The restaurant was owned by Indian-origin restaurateur Harman Singh Kapoor, who had publicly displayed signs stating that the establishment did not serve halal meat. Following the move, the restaurant reportedly faced intense backlash, including online abuse, negative reviews, protests outside the premises, and alleged threats. Videos of confrontations involving protesters and police officers circulated widely on social media, further escalating tensions around the restaurant. Kapoor also claimed that the Metropolitan Police failed to provide adequate support despite repeated disturbances outside the establishment. According to him, the ongoing harassment, safety concerns, and rising operational costs ultimately forced the closure of the restaurant. The controversy was further amplified by Kapoor’s outspoken views online, including his criticism of certain groups and political movements, which drew both support and criticism. Announcing the closure, Kapoor said he now plans to focus more on activism and continue speaking out on issues he strongly believes in.
