Baduria Municipality & TMC leader Dipankar Bhattacharya arrested
Dipankar Bhattacharya, Chairman of Baduria Municipality in West Bengal, has been arrested following police raids during an ongoing corruption investigation.
During the search operations, officials reportedly recovered close to ₹79 lakh in cash, around 500 government relief tarpaulins, and several confidential documents linked to municipal functioning.
The raids are part of a wider probe into alleged misuse of government resources and irregularities in local administration. The recovery of relief tarpaulins—intended for distribution among disaster-affected people—has particularly raised concerns over possible diversion of public welfare materials.
The large cash seizure has also deepened suspicions of financial misconduct within the municipality, prompting investigators to expand the scope of the inquiry.
Authorities are now examining procurement records, financial transactions, and administrative approvals to determine how funds and materials were handled and whether proper procedures were followed.
Officials have indicated that further questioning and forensic audits are likely as the investigation progresses.
The case has triggered political and public concern in the region, with calls for strict accountability and a thorough investigation into alleged corruption in local governance.
