IIT Jodhpur develops AI manuscript restoration project

Researchers at the IIT Jodhpur launched an innovative artificial intelligence platform to decode ancient manuscripts. This groundbreaking project aims to preserve invaluable historical documents and rich cultural heritage.
The specialized system focuses on processing damaged, faded, or deteriorated texts through advanced machine learning algorithms. Experts designed the adaptive technology to handle complex scripts including Devanagari, Sharda, Grantha, Nandinagari, Modi, and Tulu-Tigalari.
The cutting-edge AI software accurately recognizes handwritten characters and converts them into machine-readable Unicode formats. This digital transformation significantly simplifies linguistic analysis, textual translation, and comparative scholarly research.
Project leaders noted that the initiative will safeguard ancient knowledge spanning mathematics, astronomy, medicine, philosophy, and classical literature. Dr. Dinesh Mohan Joshi leads the dedicated research team spearheading this technological advancement.
Academic circles welcomed the digital platform as a major boost for the national Gyan Bharatam mission. Historians expect the new tool to accelerate the rediscovery of lost texts across global academic institutions.
