Kharagpur Railway Police seizes huge unaccounted cash

Government Railway Police personnel intercepted a passenger carrying huge unaccounted cash at Kharagpur station in West Bengal. Security officials recovered ₹1.40 crore in cash during a routine anti-crime checking drive on platform platforms.
The suspect, identified as Rahul Soni, arrived at Kharagpur on board the Tatanagar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express. Station security staff noticed suspicious movement as Soni exited the train and walked toward the Howrah-bound connecting platform.
Officers challenged the traveler after observing his nervous demeanor and heavy luggage. Soni attempted to flee through crowds before vigilant officers chased and apprehended him near the station gate.
Inspection of his luggage revealed 280 neatly packed bundles containing ₹500 currency notes. Soni failed to produce valid financial documents or account for the enormous monetary sum during initial interrogation.
Railway authorities detained Soni immediately and registered a case under relevant statutory provisions. Police officials alerted the Income Tax Department and financial intelligence agencies to investigate the exact origin and destination of the money.
Investigating officers suspect links to Hawala networks operating across West Bengal and neighboring states. Police continue interrogating Soni to identify potential accomplices involved in illegal money transfers.
