“If TMC loses, BJP will bury Bengali language”: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally in Samsherganj ahead of the Assembly elections, warning that the Bengali language could face serious challenges if the All India Trinamool Congress does not return to power.
Banerjee insinuated that Bengal’s heritage and traditions are under threat, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party is attempting to alter the state’s cultural fabric. She alleged a BJP victory could lead to erosion of Bengal’s identity, including the decline of the Bengali language. She urged voters to safeguard the state’s legacy and cultural roots.
Banerjee’s remarks come amid an intense political contest between the TMC and the BJP, with both parties exchanging sharp allegations. While the BJP is aiming to expand its presence in the state, it has rejected such claims and maintains that it respects all languages and cultural identities.
Political observers note that issues of language and identity have become central to the electoral narrative in West Bengal, influencing public opinion. Banerjee has consistently projected herself as a defender of Bengali pride, often accusing the BJP of promoting cultural uniformity.
