Northeast dance team faces racism in Patna hospital

A video from a hospital in Patna has drawn significant attention after a dance team from Northeast India alleged mistreatment during their visit. The group, which included members from Manipur and Nagaland, claimed they were spoken to disrespectfully and denied basic facilities, including access to a washroom, while seeking medical care.
The team had travelled to Patna for a cultural festival and visited the hospital on April 2 after one performer suffered a minor injury during rehearsals. According to their account, a hospital staff member stopped them from using the washroom and asked them to prove their identity.
A 45-second video of the incident has since circulated widely on social media. In the clip, individuals believed to be hospital staff and bystanders can be heard making offensive remarks about the group’s appearance, with one person telling them to go back to China while others laugh. The situation escalated when the team attempted to record the incident, with a staff member allegedly trying to snatch a phone and questioning their presence.
One of the women recording the video expressed concern, saying such experiences can be frightening for people from Northeast India when travelling to other parts of the country.
The video has prompted strong reactions online, with many calling for action and highlighting concerns about discrimination. Authorities have acknowledged the incident, with Patna Police stating they are aware of the matter, while the hospital administration has initiated an inquiry. Further developments are awaited.
