Hyderabad police raid godowns over chemical mango ripening
In Hyderabad, authorities have stepped up action against the illegal ripening of fruits, with the H-FAST team conducting inspections at locations suspected of such practices. During a raid in Asif Nagar, officials discovered a large warehouse where nearly 7 tonnes of mangoes were being artificially ripened using ethylene packets.
Officials said the mangoes had been sourced from Batasingaram market and stored in about 350 trays inside the facility. They warned that the unregulated use of chemicals for ripening poses serious health risks to consumers.
The warehouse has since been sealed, and a case has been registered against the operators, Jameel and Fareed. Authorities stated that such drives will continue to curb unsafe practices in the fruit supply chain and ensure that fruits sold in the market are safe for consumption.
