Wagah border music interrupts Ayushmann, Sara’s film promotion

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta teer promotional visit to the Attari-Wagah border became a viral sensation after loud music erupted from the Pakistani side during their address. The stars visited the Punjab border on October 21 to promote their spy comedy Udta Teer, ahead of its October 23 theatrical release. As they spoke on the Indian side, loudspeakers across the border blasted Atif Aslam’s Coke Studio rendition of the qawwali Taj-e-Dar-e-Haram, drowning out the actors’ voices. Video clips flooded social media, sparking an online debate over the timing of the music. Pakistani accounts labeled the film anti-Pakistan, whereas Indian users viewed the incident as unintended free publicity. Pakistani outlets confirmed that the clips circulated widely across their border as well. Ultimately, the attempt to silence the promotion backfired. The clips generated massive attention, granting the film a powerful surge of online buzz right before its premiere.
