Israel’s election deadlock sees many possibilities

Israel’s election ended in political deadlock after major political parties failed to secure a parliamentary majority. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc won 53 seats in the 120-member Knesset. Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot led his alliance to 48 seats. Neither group reached the 61 seats necessary to govern. Arab-led parties Joint List and Ra’am won 19 seats combined. These results position them as potential kingmakers in coalition talks. Both parties broadly support Palestinian statehood. However, the Joint List refuses to label Hamas a terrorist organization. Consequently, major Jewish opposition parties reject formal alliances with these groups. Netanyahu’s far-right partners also refuse to align with the main opposition. These constraints create several distinct political scenarios. Netanyahu could build a national unity government with select opposition members. Alternatively, he could establish a minority government using external support or legislative abstentions. Eisenkot could theoretically serve as defense minister under a broader framework to build future political leadership credentials. However, he publicly ruled out serving under Netanyahu’s direct leadership. Failure in coalition negotiations would force another general election. A repeat vote would prolong political uncertainty and risk lower opposition voter turnout. Netanyahu maintains a narrow path to retain power. Nevertheless, constructing a stable governing coalition remains an immense challenge. All factions now evaluate strategic choices as negotiations continue.
PM Modi slams Congress after NDA ballot sweep

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mocked the Congress party yesterday. The BJP-led NDA secured a massive victory in recent Legislative Council elections. Officials held these polls using traditional ballot papers across four major states. Voters rejected the principal opposition party completely. Modi highlighted the election method on social media. He asked followers to guess the exact seat count for the grand old party. The Congress party failed to win a single seat. This electoral failure occurred despite the party ruling the state of Karnataka. The National Democratic Alliance captured all four contested seats in Karnataka. Voters cast their ballots in two teachers’ constituencies and two graduates’ constituencies. The alliance fielded three BJP candidates and one JD(S) candidate. Every single NDA nominee emerged victorious. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressed the media regarding the results. He criticized opposition leaders for constantly demanding ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines. He pointed out that ballot voting still delivered a total defeat for them. In the Bengaluru teachers’ constituency, the JD(S) candidate defeated a five-time incumbent. In the North-East teachers’ constituency, the BJP candidate won his fifth consecutive term. Two other BJP candidates secured comfortable victories in the graduates’ constituencies. Critics often blame electronic voting machines for election losses. These recent results shattered that recurring opposition narrative. The ruling alliance proved its strong grassroots support. Voters decisively backed the NDA leadership.

Karnataka minister says SIR raises no concerns in the state

Karnataka Minister Sathish Jarkiholli said on Thursday that the Special Intensive Revision of rolls has not caused any issues in his state. The Congress leader said officials removed correct entries from the voter list. Jarkiholli explained who the deleted names belonged to. Some voters had passed away. Others had moved to addresses. Election officials also found a number of people registered more than once. He said these removals are part of roll-cleaning procedures. The minister made a distinction between Karnataka’s experience and the broader party position. He said Congress concerns are about states, not Karnataka. He did not mention which states or give details about the problems claimed. His comments come as Congress gets ready for a demonstration. The party is planning a rally in Delhi on November 1. Leaders will protest what they say are issues with the SIR process. Workers from states are expected to attend. The statement shows how Congress presents its complaints. The party does not oppose the revision everywhere. It focuses on states where it believes there are problems. Jarkiholli’s words suggest the Karnataka unit does not see any reason to worry at home. Political analysts will watch how the party manages these positions. Congress is, in charge of Karnataka so its leaders need to defend the state’s voting process. At the time the national leadership wants to push the issue in other places. Jarkiholli said voters should check their names on the updated list. He asked residents to fix any mistakes. He also said the state administration will assist anyone who finds an error. The Delhi rally will test the party’s message. Leaders need to explain why the same process works in one state but not another. Jarkiholli’s comments give an idea of how that argument will go.
Ex-minister Indranil Sen arrested after ED questioning

Indranil Sen, a Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal minister, found himself in police custody on Wednesday evening right after leaving the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake following hours of interrogation. Sen arrived at the ED office at 1:00 PM for his third round of questioning. At 5:06 PM, officers from the Kolkata Police detective department escorted him into a police vehicle amid a heavy security presence. Additional Commissioner (Crime) Kunal Agarwal confirmed that officers transported him to the police headquarters at Lalbazar for further questioning. The investigation centers on irregularities involving the sale of Durga Puja preview passes, originating from a complaint filed at the Bowbazar police station. A senior police official stated that the alleged fraud involves Rs 34 crore, though investigators are still verifying the exact sum and tracing the money trail. Initially, the ED suspected the figure might range between Rs 50 crore and Rs 60 crore. As part of the probe, the agency raided multiple locations linked to Sen, including his residence in Kasba and a country house in Singur. Sen’s arrest followed a series of legal setbacks. The Calcutta High Court rejected his bail plea, and when his legal team approached the Supreme Court for protection on Tuesday, Justice Dipankar Datta recused himself from the case. Reacting to the arrest, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari claimed the investigation could implicate other high-ranking figures, including former chief minister Mamata Banerjee—a remark that drew sharp criticism from the Opposition.
