Delhi AQI Stays at 364 as Several Areas Record Severe Pollution

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Saturday morning, with the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 364 at 8 am. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, several monitoring stations across the capital recorded pollution levels in the ‘severe’ category. The latest reading showed a slight improvement from Friday’s AQI of 389. However, pollution levels remained above 400 in several neighbourhoods. IIT Delhi recorded an AQI of 443, followed by Punjabi Bagh at 433 and Narela at 409. Other areas also reported elevated pollution levels. Dhaula Kuan recorded an AQI of 318, while the Cantonment Area registered 315. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 272, placing it in the ‘poor’ category. GRAP Stage III Restrictions Implemented The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on Friday, November 6. The restrictions include a ban on several non-essential construction and demolition activities. Authorities have also imposed restrictions on certain categories of vehicles to reduce vehicular emissions. Under the guidelines, BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers face restrictions in Delhi and designated NCR districts. Primary schools have also been permitted to conduct classes in hybrid mode. Diwali Raises Pollution Concerns The latest pollution readings come a day before Diwali, which falls on November 8. The Air Quality Early Warning System has forecast severe air quality in Delhi between November 7 and 9. Weather conditions have also contributed to the accumulation of pollutants. Low wind speeds and unfavourable atmospheric conditions can limit the dispersal of pollutants. The CPCB classifies AQI readings between 301 and 400 as ‘very poor’. Readings between 401 and 500 fall under the ‘severe’ category. The restrictions will remain in force as authorities monitor pollution levels across the national capital and neighbouring NCR districts.

Harita Bhadra Wins Asian Games Bronze by 0.01 Seconds

Mumbai sprinter Harita Bhadra has scripted a remarkable sporting achievement by winning bronze in the women’s 200m at the 2026 Asian Games. The 23-year-old secured the medal by just 0.01 seconds in a thrilling finish at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Bhadra clocked 23.20 seconds in the final, narrowly beating Japan’s Abigeirufuka Ido, who finished in 23.21 seconds. Singapore’s Shanti Pereira claimed gold with 22.78 seconds, while China’s Chen Yujie secured silver in 22.93 seconds. The result marked India’s first Asian Games women’s 200m medal since Dutee Chand won silver at the 2018 Jakarta Games. Interestingly, Bhadra initially did not know whether she had finished third or fourth. She realised she had won bronze only after hearing her name announced and receiving confirmation from teammate Unnathi Bolland. Her journey to the podium is equally interesting. Bhadra was not initially included in India’s athletics contingent for the Asian Games. She received a last-minute opportunity after the Indian Olympic Association requested her inclusion. The Sports Ministry cleared her participation on September 2.

Activists Storm Microsoft Data Center in Amsterdam

Roughly one hundred climate activists stormed a Microsoft data center construction site in Amsterdam. The demonstrators breached the security perimeter to protest massive resource consumption by technology companies. Some participants climbed cranes and ignited flares while others confronted police forces. The event formed part of coordinated demonstrations targeting facilities across multiple European countries. Organizers demand immediate halts to new large-scale data center developments. They argue that these massive structures drain local energy grids and exhaust vital water supplies. Local authorities previously banned the demonstration. Officers ultimately detained between 150 and 200 individuals for trespassing and breaching public order.Microsoft representatives stated that the company respects peaceful assembly rights. However, corporate officials condemned unlawful behavior that threatens the safety of workers and neighbors. The incident highlights mounting public friction over artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion. Communities across the continent increasingly question the environmental toll of digital growth. Activists promise further disruptions unless governments enforce strict regional moratoriums.
