For the first time in 47 years, India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has completed 12 consecutive months without losing a personnel member in an operational incident. The milestone marks a significant achievement for one of the country’s largest and most heavily deployed paramilitary forces.
The CRPF, which has approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, last recorded an operational death on October 30, 2025. Since then, thousands of its personnel have continued to serve in some of India’s most challenging security environments, including anti-Naxal operations, counter-insurgency duties in Jammu and Kashmir, and security deployments across the Northeast.
The achievement is particularly significant given the risks involved in these assignments. CRPF personnel frequently operate in difficult terrain, face armed insurgent groups and work in areas where even routine patrols can turn dangerous.
Director General G P Singh attributed the improved safety record to a combination of better equipment, improved training, smarter operational planning and faster medical evacuations. These changes have helped personnel respond more effectively to threats while reducing casualties during security operations.
The milestone also comes at a time when India’s internal security landscape is undergoing a major transformation. Maoist violence has declined considerably over the years, with the number of Naxal-affected districts falling from more than 100 to zero under the government’s latest assessment of affected districts.
For the men and women serving in the force, however, the achievement is about more than statistics. Behind the 12-month record are thousands of personnel who continue to undertake dangerous assignments, often far away from their families, in difficult conditions.
The development has also drawn appreciation on social media, with many users celebrating the force’s improved operational safety and the personnel who make these deployments possible.
While the threat of insurgency has not disappeared entirely, the CRPF’s year without an operational fatality represents an important moment for India’s internal security forces.
